Jordan Travel Guide
Although a country that is on the Dead Sea and mostly covered by desert may not sound like the ideal spot for a holiday, Jordan is a popular destination for tourists looking to see a more modern Arab state. Tourism has become so popular in Jordan that it now makes up nearly 12 per cent of the gross domestic product. This is largely due to the fact that Jordan is considered a safe alternative to many of the other countries in the region. Most tourists come for the ancient and religious sites such as Petra, which is an ancient city carved into the side of a mountain. The rock carving known as the Treasury was recently named one of the Seven Wonders of the World, which has boosted its status as a destination for tourists. The country is also famous for its museums, some of which house remains of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
